Dupa ce-am alergat mai bine de trei ore intre fustele de balerine luminate de Degas si culorile intr-o ureche ale lui Van Gogh am cumparat de la libraria museului o carte despre impresionism, asa, macar cat sa raspund adecvat dicutiilor eventual elevate de prin cafenele.

A doua zi, strans putin si de frig, dar dezamagit de atentia sporita pe care galeriile de fotografie contemporana o acorda fotografiei de tip reportaj – marturie a faptului ca ne impresioneaza estetic suferintele altora – am cumparat o colectie de interviuri cu fotografi care, spun oamenii mai cunascatori, au avut o contributie in definirea curentelor in arta fotografica.

Coincidenta… sau nu…  in primul interviu pe care il citesc in cea de-a doua carte gasesc, care va sa zica, urmatoarele doua fraze:

„... but I think it is very important for young photographers to find out about the whole development of the graphic arts, not simply come along and show photographs that could not stand up to a Cezanne  for a second. You cannot claim that photography is an art until your work hang on the same wall”.

si apoi vorbind despre fotografii ce faceau documentare sociala dupa crash-ul din 1929 in America:

„…They were not given a camera and told <<here, go out and make some pictures of anything you like.> Not at all. They were sent out to take photographs of the dust storms, , became migrant workers. The result was that American photography got an enormous shot in the arm. It continued the dual traditions of fine art and the social documentary photography. „
